Today as I was driving to work, I was thinking about the Ground Works team having to work in the sideways rain and cold. I was also thinking of the challenges that Renew Home and Decor has been facing with the reduced traffic in the store and Kindred Kitchen navigating changes with the State mandates through each Phase.
This has been a LONG winter for our businesses (eleven months now actually)....and for many of us.... facing hardships both at home and at work.
But, when times are hard, I often think back to a phrase I learned from my Mother when I was in graduate school and struggling with being far from home in London, studying all day and night and struggling with feeling anxious and inadequate in school and my life.
WINTER ALWAYS TURNS TO SPRING.
"No matter how long the cold, bleak days of winter may continue, WINTER ALWAYS TURNS TO SPRING. This is the law of the universe and the law of life. As long as we hold on to hope, Spring is sure to come." - Daisaku Ikeda
Holding on to hope - and CREATING hope - is fundamental to the North Star for Hope Works Social Enterprises as well. Our updated mission statement reminds us of this:
We create pathways to self-sufficiency through social enterprises that provide hope, empowerment, education and job training.
Hope and the belief that trainees (and us as employees) can TRANSFORM our lives is key to our success. It is why we keep going on dark days and it is why our businesses exist. To create pathways to self-sufficiency.
You each play a role in making this happen. Thank you for keeping hope alive and remember - sunny days are coming!
